The software utility Internet Download Manager is a simple tool used to boost up download speeds upto 5 times as compared with regular broswer based downloads. 
The program installs and runs as IDMan.exe consuming about 8k+ memory and the browser monitor runs as IEMonitor.exe consuming about 4.6k of memory.

The program has a download accelerator logic that features dynamic file segmentation to accelerate downloads. The file segmentation is done during the download process unlike other download managers. IDM finds the largest segment to download and halves it when a new connection becomes available .

The resume capability re-starts the downloads automatically if the connection was broken during the download.

The supported browsers are Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, and Mozilla which cover almost all the browsers used in the industry till date. At the time of installation, IDM identifies the browsers installed on the computer and inttegrates itself . An option is provided to re-integrate to all the browsers when required.

Another very useful feature is the Site Grabber which can download an entire web-site, sub-sets of web-sites or the required files which can be specified using a filter.

IDM Cannot resume broken downloads if the web-site hosting the download does not support the resume function.

The Enhancements in this version 5.14 include : 
A download indicator for browsers which appears on top of an embedded media (typically flv videos) which can be used to save audio and video files that are played using the embedded media player.

Bharat Ratna for Vajpayee and Malayia

On 24th December, 2014,  a press communique from Pashtrapati Bhavan said “The President has been pleased to award Bharat Ratna to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya (posthumously) and to Atal Bihari Vajpayee”.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee (born 25 December 1924) is former Indian Prime Minister and a well known Indian statesman.  He was the eleventh Prime Minister of India, first for 13 days in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004.  A parliamentarian for over four decades, Vajpayee was elected to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India’s Parliament) nine times, and twice to the Rajya Sabha (upper house).   Atalji, as he is popularly called,  enjoys great respect across all political parties even after he lost elections in 2004 and is not keeping good health at the time of award is announced.

Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya  was an Indian educationist and politician.  He is known for his role in the Indian independence movement and his espousal of Hindu nationalism. He was also popularly known as  ‘Mahamana’.

He is still remembered as the founder of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Varanasi in 1916.   BHU is the largest residential university in Asia and one of the largest in the world, having over 12,000 students across arts, sciences, engineering and technology.   On the political front, Malaviyaji  was the President of the Indian National Congress on four occasions (1909, 1913,1919,1932).  He left congress in 1934.  He was among the  founder members of Hindu Mahasabha and also founded Scouting in India. 

Micromax launches Cyanogen-powered smartphone Yureka

Domestic handset maker Micromax on Thursday announced the launch of its new smartphone brand, Yu, in India. Under an exclusive partnership with Cyanogen Inc., the first smartphone under the Yu brand is called the Yureka.

Running on CyanogenMod, the Yureka is priced at Rs 8,999 and will be available only through the online retail channel. The Yureka features a 5.5-inch HD 720p display and has pixel density of 267ppi.

The phone has a Gorilla Glass 3 display. The phone is powered by a 64bit processor (1.5GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor). It has Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The phone runs on Cyanogen OS 11 based on Android 4.4. It features a 13MP rear camera with Sony Xmor sensor and a 5MP front-facing camera.

The phone comes with 16GB internal storage and supports an expandable memory card slot. It has a ,2500 mAh battery and connectivity options support dual SIM, LTE, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth. Yureka will be exclusively available on Amazon India and will go on sale in the second week of January.

The registrations for this smartphone will start Friday. Micromax claims that rooting this smartphone won't void the warranty of this smartphone. Also, as Yureka will be available online, Micromax is providing door-step service and replacement for the device.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will start on 14 February 2015 with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka in a day match in Christchurch and co-host Australia will face England in a day/night match in Melbourne.

The Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma on 13 November 2014 scored the highest ODI score ever of 264 runs. The score of 264 runs is also the second-highest List A score.



With this he became the only cricketer to score two Double ODI centuries and also broke the record of highest ODI score of 219 runs made by Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 will be available in two variants - single SIM and dual-SIM, called the Lumia 535 Dual SIM. It is priced at an estimated retail price of 8400 rupees approx before taxes and subsidies.

Pakistan recorded the highest number of polio cases in 14 years. This was revealed by the data of polio cases released by the National Institute of Health of Pakistan on 3 October 2014.

The data revealed that polio cases in 2014 reached 202 which was the highest in 14 years. The previous highest was recorded in 2000 when it reached 199 polio cases.

One of the prime reasons for the increase in the polio cases in 2014 was cited as the rise on attacks on immunisation teams.
